Welcome to Chapter 3 of the Academy Orientation – Learn.
This session will focus on:  instructor training, certification vouchers, continuing education, alumni, on site support visits and getting CCAI certified.
There are various levels to this training model, corresponding to the tiered structure of the Networking Academy program. The components of the training model remain the same at every level of the training process, whether instructors are being trained to teach students at Local Academies or to train other instructors at Regional Academies or CATCs.
The “open” training model does not relieve an Academy of any contractual obligations for training that they may have with their Support Center.  Those details need to be worked out between the Support Center and the supported Academy before training location is considered.
In either the open or closed training model you must always establish a support relationship before you can offer a curriculum.   The Marketing Development Manager (MDM) for each theater decides how the model will be set.  You will know how your training model has been set by the options listed on Academy Connection when you are choosing support and training.
The focus of the training is on teaching the instructor trainees how to teach students using the Academy curriculum. Instructor trainees will find the training time very tight if no effort has been spent on studying of the curriculum prior to attending training.
The first course that all instructors are required to complete is this course, the Academy Orientation Course. This course may be taken as a 24-hour online course that would take between two to four weeks to complete or as a three day in person course.
Academy Orientation Course requirements include:
·         Complete Orientation Chapter
·         Pass Online Orientation Exam
·         Complete a Lesson Plan
·         Complete a Teachback
The Teachback includes submitting a video of your teaching demonstrating best practices (for remote environment) or presenting a topic to the class to demonstrate best practices (for the in person environment).
You, and the other trainees, will rotate through group work and lab activities. You will complete online and skills-based exams, discuss Academy management issues, complete a training feedback form, and discuss post-training requirements.
Fast Track Training is offered within specific curriculums and over time will continue to become available in more curriculums.
This training involves testing and demonstrating the ability to teach the curriculum through a series of skills-based tests and observations
Steps:
1.  Apply to attend the Fast Track training with the Academy Help Desk. (The Help Desk will verify your industry certification.)
2. Enroll online for the Academy Orientation Course conducted at your assigned CATC or Regional Academy.
3.       Successfully complete the Orientation course. Please note that the Orientation course is a separate course from the Instructor Fast Track course.
4.   Schedule the skills-based tests and/or projects for the appropriate curriculum at an authorized CATC or Regional Academy.
5.       Successfully complete the skills-based tests and/or Projects.
6.Complete the online final for the appropriate curriculum.
*If Instructor performance is unsatisfactory at any point during the Fast Track training, or should an Instructor fail a skills-based test, the Instructor will be disqualified from the Fast Track training and will be required to enroll in the Regular Training.
With the CCNA Versions 2.1.2 and earlier training, an instructor must receive a score of Proficient or higher on the CCNA 4 Chapter 9 exam.  This is an optional exam for graduation but a requirement to meet the voucher discount standard.
With the CCNA Versions 2.1.3 and later training, an instructor must receive a Proficient or higher on the CCNA 4 Chapter 9 exam.  This is also an optional exam.
All instructors who have taken the Fundamentals of Web Design Course are eligible for the CWDSA exam discount.
All this information is highlighted on the next three slides.
Instructors who have met the CCNA qualifications mentioned previously may request vouchers by following the steps on this slide.
Instructors can visit the CWDSA web site displayed on this slide for a discount exam on web design.
Continuing education is expected and important for all academy instructors.
Best efforts to attend all continuing education events should be made by all instructors and main contacts, even if they have already satisfied the continuing education requirement.
All continuing education hours should be logged and kept up to date by the individual instructor and be available for review if requested.
Instructors and main contacts at all CATCs and Regional Academies are required to send at least one (1) instructor or main contact to the annual Cisco Networking Academy conference.  At this time, this conference is held in conjunction with the Networker’s conference, http://www.cisco.com/networkers/.
Please note that if you are offering more than one Curriculum as a CATC or Regional, the expectation is that you are holding continuing education events for each curriculum offering.
Eligible Alumni: Students who have “qualified” for the alumni program by successfully completing one course Registered Alumni: Eligible Alumni who have “registered” using the “registration form” Alumni Member: Registered Alumni who have paid for a subscription to the Alumni Connection web site.
At the end of the four months, their link will become inactive and they will receive an automatic e-mail inviting them to “subscribe” to the site and become an “Alumni Member”.  This email will provide a link that will take individuals to the e-commerce tool for paid subscriptions.  If they choose not to subscribe, they will only be able to access the public facing page of the site.  However, individuals can choose to subscribe at a later date.
They will be able to access the registration form at a later date either through the Student Home Page on CNAMS, if they are still an “Active Student”, or by logging into CNAMS through the “Alumni Connection” web site log-in feature.
With the launching of the Alumni Connection, an Alumni Survey will be available.  Individuals will be given the option to complete the Alumni Survey at the same time they register to become an alumni.
The survey will ask individuals to provide information about employment and their careers.  The information obtained will be used to enhance the Networking Academy Program.
A reminder will be given through messaging on the Alumni Home Page to update the survey.
CCAI is the Cisco Certified Academy Instructor program designed for professional development, to ensure proficient and quality of instruction and for instructors to exhibit teaching methods.
